The “Doppelgänger” Series

“I know at last the lovely thing:
It’s She! girl dark yet glimmering.”

-“Doppelgänger Series” Statement

The “Doppelganger” series is about relationships  that occur within one’s being.

I believe that there are different sides in all human beings. Imagine that one day,

a girl meets the other side of herself, her “dark side.” Then, interaction between

the different sides begins. Feelings such as denial, ignorance, envy interact.

Next, the different sides understand, embrace, love and forgive each other.

There are many symbolic elements in my “Doppelganger” series. One of my

central inspirations are French Poet Baudelaire’s poems, “Flowers of Evils”.

I am intrigued by beauty as well as the beauty’s opposite, the dark side.

“A white dress” represents desire, the desire to live and have more in one’s life.

“A white dress” can also be seen as being greedy or having hope. Black represents

dark consequences that follow such as guilty feelings about desiring more – there

are white lilies as well as black ones.

Baudelaire often praised the simple beauty of woman. I have adapted woman’s form

to depict backgrounds, reflecting various emotional states. Light coming from dark,

still water, the setting sun – these are all fundamental and natural elements that evoke

the emotional interactions between “White” and “Black”.
